Abbey Road Institute Johannesburg’s location is at Mastermax Studios, in Midrand. It has has hosted many iconic artists over the years including One Republic, Jenifer Hudson, Lebo M and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
The institute boasts with various recording set-ups, a triple-volume live room with floating floors and detached isolation booths as well as two more production suites, a cinema mixing room and a dedicated classroom. With access to these and a range of vintage and modern equipment, it’s the best place for you to hone your craft and make connections in the industry.

As a student of Abbey Road Institute, you’ll spend time learning and developing skills in our industry-standard facilities as well as participating in recording workshops and masterclasses. Our facilities include a variety of set-ups and rooms that students gain access to at various stages of their journey. We have a dedicated classroom that is equipped with individual workstations for each student.
You have access to the Institute’s facilities as part of your timetabled teaching and outside of classes. For instance you can start a project in the studio and continue recording, editing and mixing on the workstations in the Classroom or in the Production Suite.
The studio spaces are designed to ensure students’ proficiency in old- and new-school workflows. The rooms are as efficient as they are inspiring.
This space is acoustically optimal for various recordings including drums, chamber music, choir and so much more.
This studio reflects the typical modern hybrid setup providing full integration between “in the box” resources and analogue outboard equipment
Studio C forms part of the live room, and is attached to Studio A, but can work great for band recording and rehearsal space.
All theory and classroom-based practical lectures take place in our Classroom/Lab.
This room is designed to enable you to produce music and start recording from the very beginning providing an “in the box” setup with a vast selection of software and several controllers.
